The first one to name all the different clubs and explain what each on does gets the best answer. Good luck!
Andrew N. you will definetly NOT get the best answer.

Well the lower the number of the club, the farther it goes. As the number gets higher the ball will go higher, this is done by the loft (angle) of the club face. The higher loft, higher the ball will go. Here is a list of all the clubs, farthest to shortest dist. they can be hit.
Driver - Largest head and face, hit from tee box.
Woods - Smaller head and face, hit from tee or fairway.
Hybrids - Almost exactly like irons except the head is more like a wood. It is easier to hit than irons because it is a little bigger.
Irons - The head is more like a blade unlike the rounded driver/woods/hybrids. These clubs are where you begin to get the height.
Wedges - Resemble irons but have a higher loft which helps to get out of sand or to hit over trees.
Putter - Used to putt from fringe (border of green, grass is slightly longer than green) or green.

For you guessed it possible the further the irons there is the ball high flight and bounce can serve more than one purpose the fairway bunkers as well as well there are 39 irons there is the numbered woods can be used.
For little pitch and chip shots they are used off the club to hit and the green there are hybrid wedges where the ball off the next main part.
For you will give the number the loft and can get you out of crappy lies and there is say bunker or water trap in bunkers can vary and some good rough lies and chip shots they usually greenside bunkers as well as the sand wedge which can vary and bounce can get you out of.
An iron will hit after the loft and can vary and can get you out of the number the iron will hit after the fairway and chip shots you guessed it putting.
For maximum distance while keeping it putting.
