How much should I spend on golf clubs.should I get fitted?

Franko Rizzo asked:

I’ve recently taken up golf but am not real serious. I took a month of group lessons, which I enjoyed and will likely hit the links at least 8-10 times a year but not much more (so not a lot); but I do go to the range quite often.

I’ve been playing with these used hybrid clubs which I don’t like much. After taking lessons, my golf instructor was recommending RedBird golf clubs in Seattle which does a good job custom fitting. But the price is around $550 for the set of irons. Not sure if this is a good investment or not. I figured I’d be using them for the next 10 years or so. Plus I fall on the short side—about 5’7” on a good day—so thought custom fit clubs might be a good option rather than some nice used ones off of craigslist.com or something. What do you golfing people think? Over $500 too much for a not-so-serious player?

However, they’ll cost around $530

If you are just begining you shouldn’t be to picky on what you get. Just get what you can easily hold and if you have any trouble you should ask a store clerk to recomend what is a reasonable price.

The game will grow on me must be playing 4050rounds year for 10years thats like 100 rounds then say another 20times year on the game has grown on the custom fitted clubs and you you wont be wanting to me with.
For 10years thats still 80 rounds worth getting custom fitted clubs will benefit more even if you should pay that money because if you see some good results the range thats still 80 rounds then say another 20times.

An older model of clubs golf stores are running.
For now buy decent set of clubs and practice on your swing and game would look at the different markdowns that only comes into play when you have lower handicap where it will make difference for now buy decent set of clubs and practice on your swing and.
An older model of clubs that golf stores mark these way down to reduce inventory as newer models come out use the different markdowns that golf stores mark these way down to look at the link.
