Rick Parker asked:

Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk.  Can I ever call myself a seasoned golf veteran just like these guys? Hmmm… Let me think.Without an iota of doubt, I know for sure that I am not one. I can’t call myself one for the same reason that one does not become a seasoned professional by watching the PGA alone on the television  :-)

But then there are a few things that I can help you with given my interest for the game. To start with, I can help you choose the right kind of golf club.

Talking about the most expensive stuff in this world, the golf club tops my list. But then, you know that I am referring to those that come with the sophisticated technology built into them. By and large from what I have observed, the newbies in the game have this irresistible temptation for these expensive sticks. Probably they delve under the illusion that these sticks are bound to improve their skills overnight. This, in my opinion, is a huge misconception.

The truth is that an amazing golf club will require an amazing technique in order to make it work as desired. With the slightest of mistake, you might throw the trajectory of the ball far off the track and eventually end up being the laughing stock of the town. So, I would advise you to stick to the beginner’s golf clubs and switch over to the advanced ones only after you perfect your technique.

Now, here comes the question. How do I save money on my golf club purchase? One of the easiest way out is to use a second hand club. If you golf  around with people who always stay with the latest cutting edge of technology, they are likely to have clubs that they dont use and are still of a very high quality level. You can speak to them about purchasing the used golf clubs. However, I will like to caution you to take these clubs out for a test game before purchasing them.

Talking of used golf clubs, auction houses and pawn shops are the other two places that I would recommend. If you are new to the game, it is a good practice to make a list of all your expectations of a good golf club and use this list when you go to scout out for possibilities.
