Can I still use my clubs if they’re ice cold?
January 17th, 2010 | by admin |2eighty8 asked:
I accidentally forgot to take out my clubs (mostly steel-shafts) from my trunk last night and it’s just above freezing. I have this hankering to go try out this winterized driving range right now. Will it be okay if I use my ice cold clubs? Will they break?

They’ll be fine; done that a time or two myself.

The clubs should be fine, although they will react differently that they would if they were at a higher temperature.
If the clubs had graphite shafts however, it would be unwise to use them at that cold of a temperature. Graphite shafts can become brittle at extreem cold, and could be more likely to break.

The other hand gets brittle more easily so wouldnt hit those until theyve warmed up.

The worst that will happen is that condensation will form on the clubs. Just wipe them down so the shafts don’t oxidize.

They should be just fine.

Don’t hit that titanium driver or fairway wood. These club faces run a risk of catastrophic failure at below freezing temps.

Yes. They will be fine. You can use them as long as you can swing in the cold. I would worry more about your swing than the clubs.
